PAST PROGRAMS:
Here are some of the programs that Members of Buddhist Peace Fellowship New York City have joined:
On Wednesday, October 8, 2003, Buddhist Peace Fellowship and The Village Zendo hosted ENGAGED BUDDHISM: An Evening with Lyn Fine.
Lyn Fine is a Dharma teacher in the socially engaged
practice tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
Lyn leads retreats in the USA and Israel, and has
over 25 years experience as a practitioner of peer
listening and peace education.
The NYC Chapter of Buddhist Peace Fellowship sponsored a pan-Buddhist potluck picnic in Riverside Park on Sunday, June 29, 2003. People from various sanghas participated - and we hope to host another picnic during the Summer or early Fall.
Before and during the war in Iraq, BPF NYC was participating in a weekly outdoor meditation on Saturdays, from 2 to 4 pm in Washington Square Park. The weekly sittings were co-sponsored by The Peacemaker Community, The Zen Peacemaker Order, and The Buddhist Peace Fellowship. Based on a number of factors, we decided to discontinue the Saturday sits in
June 2003. Should anyone have a great interest in keeping these going, we can discuss this at a BPF meeting.
We were at the October 26, 2002 March on Washington, the biggest US anti-war demonstration since the Vietnam War;
We were at the October 6, 2002 Not in our Name gathering in New York City's Central Park;
We sat for a small, group meditation in New York City's Washington Square Park on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 tragedy.
